Quick verdict
Refersion: Bottom Line
Refersion is a strong option for ecommerce brands that want affiliate software built around storefront sales, influencer partnerships, coupon tracking, partner recruitment, and payout workflows.
Its clearest fit is a Shopify, Shopify Plus, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, or ecommerce-led brand that already has products to promote and wants a dedicated system for recruiting affiliates, attributing orders, calculating commissions, and paying partners. Refersion is not just a simple referral widget; it includes marketplace listing, affiliate registration pages, first-party tracking, coupon and email attribution, commission rules, affiliate dashboards, integrations, and multiple payout paths.
The biggest buying consideration is cost structure. Refersion’s current public-facing pricing materials show a low monthly entry point, but paid plans can also include a percentage fee on affiliate-generated sales. That can be attractive when a program is new, but brands should calculate the total cost once affiliate revenue grows. Refersion is also more ecommerce-centered than SaaS-native tools like Rewardful and FirstPromoter, even though it can support subscription-related workflows through integrations such as Recharge, Chargebee, and Bold.

Who Refersion Is Best For
Consider it if you want…
- A platform designed around ecommerce affiliate, influencer, creator, and ambassador programs.
- Affiliate tracking connected to storefront behavior, order attribution, coupons, product-level commissions, and campaign-level offers.
- Refersion Marketplace visibility so potential partners can find and apply to your program.
- Multiple payout options, including PayPal, Trolley, gift cards, manual payment recording, and Unified Payments where eligible.
- Strong Shopify ecosystem fit, with support for Shopify checkout, Google Analytics, Klaviyo, Mailchimp, PayPal, Stripe, and Yotpo listed on the Shopify App Store.
Look elsewhere if you need…
- A SaaS-native affiliate system built first around Stripe or Paddle subscriptions, in-app referral portals, or B2B subscription lifecycle events.
- An enterprise partnership cloud with complex contract workflows, multi-channel partnership attribution, media partners, and mature finance controls.
- Flat pricing without a percentage fee on affiliate-driven sales at the lower public tiers.
- A public SOC 2 or ISO security report page before procurement. We found privacy, terms, and data-security language, but not a public SOC 2 page during this review.
- A tool that is primarily a customer-to-customer referral program rather than an external partner and creator affiliate platform.
Plans and value
Refersion Pricing and Plans
Refersion’s current public pricing deserves a careful read because the total cost is not only a monthly subscription. At the time of review, Refersion’s public pricing materials and Shopify App Store listing showed a free Marketplace listing option, Launch at $39/month plus 3% of affiliate-generated sales, and Growth at $199/month plus 2% of affiliate-generated sales. The listing also notes that recurring and usage-based charges are billed every 30 days in USD.
The Launch plan is positioned for new affiliate programs. It includes unlimited affiliates, unlimited clicks and conversions, first-party tracking domain, one-click payouts including PayPal, and percentage-of-sale or subscription commissions. Growth adds more commission options, SKU and email-level tracking, multi-currency support, 30+ email and marketing integrations, and live chat support.
Refersion’s main website also shows that plans start at a low monthly amount while scaling with affiliate-driven sales. That makes the tool accessible at launch, but it also means a brand with meaningful affiliate revenue should model the percentage fee. A $39 monthly platform fee can become much more expensive once the program generates large volumes of partner-attributed sales. If you want predictable fixed cost at scale, ask sales about Scale or custom pricing and confirm whether the plan removes or changes the affiliate-sales percentage fee.
There is one important source inconsistency to be aware of: some older public third-party listings still show legacy Refersion plan names and prices such as Professional or Business. We did not use those as the primary pricing source because the current Shopify listing and Refersion pricing snippets show the Launch/Growth structure. For SEO and buyer usefulness, the safest statement is: Launch starts at $39/month plus 3%; Growth is publicly listed at $199/month plus 2%; Scale/custom pricing should be confirmed directly with Refersion before buying.
Refund terms are stricter than the low entry price might suggest. Refersion’s Terms of Service state that merchants authorize monthly or order-form-based charges and that Refersion is not required to refund fees except in the event of Refersion’s fraud, gross negligence, or willful misconduct. For cancellation, Refersion’s help center says Shopify-billed accounts can cancel by uninstalling the Shopify app, while direct-billed merchants should email Refersion to begin cancellation. This makes it important to validate pricing, billing channel, app installation, tracking setup, and cancellation path before committing.

Affiliate Tracking, Attribution, and Reporting
Refersion’s tracking model is built for ecommerce programs where the buyer moves from a creator, publisher, influencer, ambassador, or affiliate link into a storefront and completes an order. Refersion’s attribution documentation describes a flow where a click is recorded for the affiliate, a unique cart ID is assigned to the customer’s shopping session, and the completed purchase is matched back to the order.
That is useful for ecommerce because many affiliate sales do not come from a single clean “link click → purchase immediately” path. Refersion supports referral links, coupon codes, and email attribution, which gives brands options for partners who promote through blogs, newsletters, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube descriptions, deal pages, SMS, creator storefronts, or private communities. Coupon tracking is particularly relevant for influencers whose audiences may remember a code but not use a link.
Refersion’s FAQ states that modern plans include unlimited conversions and affiliates. It also says the platform uses last-click attribution when a customer clicks multiple affiliate links before buying. That is a practical default, but brands should communicate it in their affiliate terms because attribution rules directly affect partner trust. If your program wants first-click attribution, multi-touch crediting, or very complex media-partner credit logic, impact.com may be the better comparison point.
For commission structures, Refersion supports flat-rate, percentage-of-sale, and tiered commission models. The platform can also handle product-level and SKU-level logic on higher tiers, which matters for brands with different margins by product category. A supplement brand, skincare brand, apparel company, or home goods store may not want to pay the same commission on every product. Product-level or SKU-level commission rules help align affiliate incentives with actual profit.
Partner discovery
Refersion Marketplace and Affiliate Recruitment
One reason Refersion stands out from simpler affiliate tools is marketplace visibility. Refersion’s free Marketplace listing allows a brand to publish a percentage-of-sale offer, make the offer discoverable, and let affiliates view and apply. That does not replace active outreach, but it gives new programs a way to be present where partners are already looking for offers.
The Shopify listing also describes AI-powered affiliate, influencer, creator, and publisher discovery and Refersion Marketplace access for uncovering partners. For ecommerce brands, this is an important middle ground. Refersion is not a broad B2B partner ecosystem like PartnerStack, but it is more recruitment-aware than basic tracking tools that only give you a link and expect you to find every affiliate manually.
Brands should still treat recruitment as a strategic workflow, not a switch to turn on. Refersion can help organize applications, registrations, offers, and tracking, but your offer quality still matters: commission rate, cookie window, creative assets, landing page quality, payout reliability, product-market fit, and communication. A marketplace listing is useful, but the highest-performing partners often come from direct outreach, customer communities, creator relationships, niche publishers, and existing brand advocates.
Commissions and payout operations
Commissions, Payouts, and Tax Workflow
Refersion can support several ways to pay affiliates. Its help center lists Unified Payments, PayPal Payouts, Trolley, gift card payments, and manual mark-as-paid workflows. This range is important because ecommerce affiliate programs can include different partner types: small creators who prefer PayPal, publishers that expect bank transfer workflows, brand ambassadors who accept gift cards, and affiliates who are paid outside the platform but still need reporting to stay accurate.
Unified Payments is Refersion’s own payment platform, but it is not universally available. The help center says Unified Payments is available to merchants that meet all listed requirements: the business is registered in the US, the bank is located in the US, and affiliates are paid in USD. It also states that Unified Payments automates commission payments and tax management, and can generate and file 1099 or 1042-S forms for affiliates above the applicable threshold.
There are also fees to understand. Refersion’s Unified Payments FAQ states that merchants pay a 1% transaction fee on funding, capped at $6 per transaction, and a $5 annual fee for each affiliate that earned $600 or more for 1099 filing. Affiliates may also have wallet withdrawal fees depending on location. These costs do not make the feature bad, but they should be included in your program’s real operating budget.
For merchants not using Unified Payments, Refersion supports PayPal Payouts and Trolley. The help center notes that when a one-time or cumulative payout reaches $1,000 or more within a 24-hour period via PayPal Payouts or Trolley, Refersion asks for two-factor authentication confirmation. That kind of payment control is a positive operational detail for programs with growing commission volume.
Ecommerce stack
Integrations, API, and Ecommerce Fit
Refersion is most compelling when it sits close to an ecommerce storefront. Its Shopify page describes integration with Shopify and Shopify Plus stores, affiliate registration inside the ecommerce experience, and the ability to add affiliate recruiting into checkout-related flows. The Shopify App Store listing says Refersion works with Checkout, Google Analytics, Klaviyo, Mailchimp, PayPal, Stripe, and Yotpo.
WooCommerce is also a relevant fit. Refersion’s WooCommerce page says it can help connect to WooCommerce, recruit affiliates, automate data tracking, manage tax workflows, and monthly payments. The WordPress plugin listing describes sales tracking, connecting an online shop in a few clicks, simplifying affiliate payments, and automatically calculating commissions owed.
The broader integrations directory includes analytics tools such as Google Analytics, email apps such as Klaviyo and Mailchimp, payment tools such as PayPal and Trolley, and influencer management-related integrations. This matters because affiliate management rarely lives alone. A working program touches email onboarding, tracking, payout operations, product feeds, analytics, taxes, fraud review, and partner communication.
Refersion also has an API reference, which helps brands that need custom workflows. However, the platform’s native strengths still lean toward ecommerce. SaaS companies that need deep subscription lifecycle attribution, in-app referral widgets, or tight Stripe/Paddle event handling should compare Rewardful and FirstPromoter first. Refersion can handle recurring subscriptions through integrations listed in its FAQ, including Recharge, Chargebee, and Bold, but it is not as SaaS-native in positioning as those alternatives.
Support and onboarding
Customer Support and Onboarding
Support access depends on plan and channel. The Shopify listing notes live chat support on Growth, while Refersion’s pricing snippets mention premium support, white-glove onboarding, Slack channel access, and early feature access for higher-volume Scale users. Refersion’s help center is also substantial, with collections for integrations, payments, managing affiliates and offers, migration, tracking, Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and general account questions.
Refersion’s premium onboarding help center page describes 1:1 guided calls, a platform walkthrough, tracking setup assistance, and guidance on managing potential affiliate partners. This is especially useful for merchants moving from manual tracking, spreadsheets, or a legacy affiliate tool. Affiliate software implementation is not just installing an app; it involves deciding commission rules, tracking logic, approval workflows, payout timing, return/refund policies, and partner communications.
That said, users should confirm exactly what level of support is included in their plan before buying. A small Launch plan merchant and a Scale plan merchant may have very different onboarding experiences. If your program already drives meaningful revenue, ask Refersion whether migration, partner import, custom tracking review, Slack support, or dedicated success resources are included or paid separately.
Security and data
Privacy, Security, and Data Considerations
Refersion processes sensitive operational data: customer transactions, affiliate records, payout information, partner details, and integration data from ecommerce platforms. Its Terms of Service say the company has implemented and maintains industry-standard measures, procedures, and policies designed to safeguard the confidentiality, integrity, and security of the Services and Customer Data. The same section also notes that online hosting and transmission inherently involves risk and requires both parties to notify each other within 24 hours after becoming aware of certain unauthorized access or security events.
The Privacy Policy explains how Refersion collects, uses, discloses, and processes personal information in connection with its website, marketplace, platform, services, products, and related functionality. It also explains that, in some cases, Refersion processes Brand Data on behalf of and under the instruction of the respective Brand acting as data controller.
For GDPR, Refersion’s support documentation states that EU citizens have rights around personal data and describes the regulatory principles of transparency, control, and accountability. That is useful for a public review, but procurement teams should still request the latest Data Processing Addendum, subprocessors, security questionnaire responses, and any private compliance documents before sending sensitive customer or payout data through the platform.
We did not find a public SOC 2, ISO 27001, or equivalent security certification page during this review. That does not mean Refersion lacks internal controls; it means we did not find a public certification source to cite. For a small ecommerce program, the available public terms and privacy materials may be enough to shortlist the tool. For enterprise procurement, ask Refersion directly for current security documentation.
Reputation
Reputation and User Reviews
Public user-review signals for Refersion are mixed but generally show stronger performance in ecommerce-specific marketplaces than on broader customer review sites. The Shopify App Store listing showed an overall rating of 4.7 from 483 reviews at the time of research, with many merchants valuing setup, Shopify integration, customizable compensation, tracking, and support. Because Shopify merchants are a core Refersion audience, this is one of the more relevant public reputation signals.
Capterra showed Refersion at 4.2 overall from 56 reviews. Capterra’s summary describes Refersion as a platform for affiliate, influencer, and ambassador programs with campaign management, multiple payment and commission options, first-party tracking, and integrations with ecommerce platforms such as Shopify, BigCommerce, and WooCommerce. That aligns with the product positioning found in official materials.
Trustpilot was weaker, showing a 2.5 TrustScore from 8 reviews. Because that sample is much smaller than Shopify’s review base, it should not outweigh ecommerce-specific feedback by itself, but it is still worth noting. A sensible interpretation is that Refersion has a strong audience among Shopify/ecommerce merchants, while buyers should still inspect recent review complaints, support patterns, billing concerns, and cancellation feedback before committing.
As with all public review platforms, these scores are external user signals, not Reviews Ally ratings. They can help identify patterns, but they should not replace your own due diligence around pricing, tracking setup, payout rules, integration compatibility, and support expectations.
Alternatives
Refersion Compared With Alternatives
Refersion vs. PartnerStack
PartnerStack is usually the better comparison for B2B SaaS companies that want a broader partner ecosystem, partner portal, marketplace-style discovery, and recurring B2B revenue workflows. Refersion is more natural for ecommerce brands, Shopify merchants, and DTC programs that revolve around storefront orders, creators, coupon codes, and ecommerce integrations.
Refersion vs. impact.com
impact.com is better for larger brands that need a full partnership management platform with enterprise-grade workflows, partner contracts, broader partnership channels, advanced attribution, and mature finance operations. Refersion is simpler and more ecommerce-focused. If you mainly need to launch an affiliate/influencer program for a store, Refersion may be easier to start. If you need a partnership operating system across many partner types, impact.com deserves a closer look.
Refersion vs. FirstPromoter
FirstPromoter is more SaaS-native. It fits companies that track trials, subscriptions, renewals, upgrades, downgrades, cancellations, chargebacks, and recurring commissions through billing systems such as Stripe, Paddle, Chargebee, Recurly, or Braintree. Refersion can support subscription-related use cases through certain integrations, but its strongest fit is still ecommerce affiliate and influencer marketing.
Refersion vs. Rewardful
Rewardful is simpler and more focused on Stripe and Paddle SaaS affiliate programs. Refersion is broader for ecommerce and creator programs, with marketplace visibility, storefront integrations, and more ecommerce partner workflows. Choose Rewardful when you want a lean subscription affiliate setup. Choose Refersion when your primary motion is ecommerce partner sales.
Compare before choosing. Refersion is strongest for ecommerce affiliate programs, while SaaS teams and enterprise partnership teams may prefer other tools.

Should You Choose Refersion?
Choose Refersion if your affiliate program is closely tied to ecommerce and you want a platform that can manage partners, track storefront-driven conversions, support coupon and link attribution, organize payouts, and help expose your offer through a marketplace. It is especially worth shortlisting for Shopify and WooCommerce merchants, DTC brands, beauty and fashion stores, health and wellness ecommerce brands, home goods companies, subscription commerce brands, and creator-driven stores.
Do not choose it blindly based only on the low monthly entry price. The percentage fee on affiliate-generated sales can become meaningful as volume grows, and the best plan for your business may depend on whether you need SKU-level tracking, live chat support, multi-currency, white labeling, premium onboarding, or fixed-scale economics. Confirm your current plan, billing channel, cancellation path, and all transaction or payout fees before purchase.
For Reviews Ally’s editorial view, Refersion is a strong ecommerce-focused affiliate management platform, but it is not the default best choice for every affiliate program. SaaS companies should compare FirstPromoter and Rewardful. Enterprise partnership teams should compare impact.com and PartnerStack. Ecommerce brands that want affiliate and influencer infrastructure directly connected to storefront workflows should put Refersion high on the shortlist.
Common questions
Refersion FAQ
How much does Refersion cost?
At the time of review, the public Shopify listing showed Launch at $39/month plus 3% of affiliate-generated sales and Growth at $199/month plus 2% of affiliate-generated sales. A free Marketplace listing is also shown. Scale/custom pricing should be confirmed directly with Refersion.
Does Refersion offer a free trial?
Public third-party listings and some ecommerce marketplace pages reference a free trial, but the most important step is to confirm current trial availability directly on Refersion’s pricing or checkout flow before starting. Pricing and trial availability can vary by plan or channel.
Is Refersion best for SaaS affiliate programs?
Refersion can support subscription-related workflows through integrations such as Recharge, Chargebee, and Bold, but it is more ecommerce-focused than SaaS-native tools like Rewardful and FirstPromoter. SaaS teams should compare those alternatives before choosing.
Can Refersion track coupon codes?
Yes. Refersion supports affiliate attribution through referral links, coupon codes, and email attribution. Coupon tracking is especially useful for influencer and creator programs where customers may remember a discount code instead of clicking a link.
How does Refersion pay affiliates?
Refersion supports Unified Payments for eligible US-based USD programs, PayPal Payouts, Trolley, gift cards, and manual mark-as-paid workflows. Unified Payments has eligibility requirements and associated fees, so merchants should review payout terms before launch.
Is Refersion refundable?
Refersion’s Terms of Service state that Refersion is not required to refund fees except in limited cases such as Refersion fraud, gross negligence, or willful misconduct. Buyers should test during any trial period and confirm cancellation requirements before paying.
