The five current plans start at $39 per month, but a five-item Starter allowance and $3 overage can make the $59 Essentials plan cheaper in an ordinary busy month. We checked 34 public plan-and-address paths, ten base addresses, the current and older apps, and direct support replies. The cancellation documents still disagree in a way that matters.

LegalZoom Virtual Mail is a practical shortlist candidate for a business that wants a U.S. mailing address, digitized mail, native mobile apps, and room to grow into a team mailroom. The recurring price and item allowance need to fit your volume. At 20 items and three recipient names, Starter’s known subtotal is $89, versus $59 on Essentials, before shipping or other usage.
We saw all five business tiers at the sampled New York and Beaverton addresses and the three MailBox tiers at eight other addresses. The public flow displayed a prorated amount due that day and the full plan price for the next monthly cycle. Those are screen observations, not paid receipts. The harder issue is closure: the July 2026 terms and a dated support answer describe materially different handling of new mail after ordinary cancellation.

Our method
How We Reviewed Earth Class Mail
The researcher ran ten Smarty base-address lookups on October 19 and recorded 34 business plan-and-address paths on October 27: Starter, Essentials, and Premium in ten markets, plus both MailRoom tiers in New York and Beaverton. A separate New York personal-plan path is excluded from the business count. We examined the fee schedule, policies, four app listings, 57 captured app-review entries, and three Google profile entries, and obtained six focused support answers. Material official plan and policy pages were revisited on October 30.
Nine base-address responses returned DPV=Y and one Atlanta base query returned DPV=D, a missing-secondary result. All ten were classified Commercial by Smarty; five returned CMRA=Y and five CMRA=N. These are characteristics of the exact query strings, not a verdict on a future assigned mailbox, USPS approval, or acceptance by a bank. The checkout presented an Atlanta address with Suite 220, which was not the same query as the bare building address. New York’s checkout ZIP+4 also differed from the base-street lookup; we do not treat those as interchangeable.
The screenshots of account menus and workflows in the evidence set use fictional data. They show provider-controlled interface examples, not a login or live transaction independently executed by Reviews Ally. The researcher stopped before identity verification, payment, or mail handling.

The current business plan page lists three MailBox and two MailRoom tiers. Each of our 34 safe public paths matched its plan’s advertised monthly base rate. The item allowance below reflects the current cards and the October 27 observations, not older snapshots that listed more items on Premium and MailRoom.

The October 27 screen showed a prorated amount due that day: for example, New York Starter displayed $6.16 due and $39 as the monthly rate, while the New York Business MailRoom path displayed $46.90 due and $299 monthly. The Virtual Mail terms describe a prorated initial period and billing on the first of the month for the preceding term thereafter. A small first-screen amount is not a permanent discount or a paid receipt. No card was charged in this research.
Count the items that may be created, not just the envelopes delivered. At 20 monthly items, the $39 tier can cost more than Essentials before forwarding.

When the $39 Plan Stops Being Cheapest
These are illustrative known monthly subtotals using published base, item, and recipient rates. They assume ordinary items within the scan-page allowance, one address, no extra user seats, and no optional check-deposit subscription. They exclude taxes, postage, shipping handling, physical storage, extra pages, and other usage. They are not checkout quotes.

The 20-item Starter example is $39 + 15 overage items × $3 + one extra recipient × $5 = $89. At 60 items, Premium’s 50-item allowance produces ten $3 overages, for $149. The higher MailRoom tiers start at $179 and $299 before other usage. If a single outer envelope contains five separate inner envelopes, support told us its Open and Deliver workflow counts six items, not one. That edge case can cross a plan boundary faster than an envelope-only estimate suggests.

Ten Addresses Checked, with One Important Atlanta Exception
The official address directory advertises a wider U.S. network. We fixed ten markets for reproducible checks. All ten appeared in public plan paths on October 27; we did not reserve or receive an assigned mailbox number. The table describes the base street query, not a customer’s full eventual address.

Smarty responses captured October 19; all ten show Commercial RDI. *Atlanta’s bare building query returned DPV=D with a missing-secondary footnote. The chooser later displayed “Ste 220”; the researcher did not present a validation of that exact assigned suite or PMB. CMRA=N on a base query is not a promise about the mailbox or an institutional approval.
The New York chooser displayed ZIP+4 10003-1502 while the base-street Smarty response standardized 10003-0103. This is another reason not to copy a raw street lookup as an assigned mailbox address. We did not verify a complete subscriber address or test its use with a bank, state filing office, Google Business Profile, or marketplace.
Mail workflow
How Mail Is Received and Digitized
The provider’s processing guide describes transfer to Beaverton, Oregon, or Frisco, Texas, with typical transit and processing estimates. A specialist’s written answer gave a more specific New York example: USPS mail is collected via a Brooklyn office and then transferred to Beaverton for processing; the Beaverton sample is received directly there. That is a provider description, not a measured trip or a guarantee for every carrier and item.
The public plans include digitization of the stated number of items, with no additional scan fee for documents of 20 pages or fewer under the published table. The scanning guide says automatic scanning is enabled for most accounts and can be customized. That process is separate from AI summaries; support says the AI feature is opt-in for a new account.
Physical mail
Forwarding, Packages and Storage
The fee guide lists $1.25 per domestic standard shipment plus postage and $1 per item placed in the box; international standard handling is $5 plus postage and $1 per item. Support also described $10 expedited processing plus postage and the per-item charge. These are components, not route totals. The specialist declined to price eight hypothetical domestic and international shipments in advance and said an activated, Form 1583-verified account shows an estimate during an actual request before submission.
Support identified USPS and FedEx as forwarding carriers and stated an outbound ceiling of 150 pounds and 15.5 × 24 × 18.5 inches. A separate incoming-size help article describes a smaller receiving limit. Receiving and outbound forwarding are different stages; do not use the outbound figure to decide whether a sender’s parcel will be accepted.
Physical letters are free to hold for 30 days and parcels for ten days, then the published $1.50-per-month letter or $15-per-pound-per-month parcel rate applies. Digitized mail has a separate unlimited cloud-storage claim. The public FAQ says there is no in-person pickup, so forwarding cost matters even if you live near a listed address.
Optional service
Check Deposit Is a Separate Charge
LegalZoom’s plan cards mention check deposit next to included features, but the current check-deposit article explains the choice: $10 for a deposit without a subscription, or a $39 monthly add-on covering five checks, followed by $2 per additional check. The account setup selects it under Plan/Add-ons. Do not read “included with a $39/month subscription” as a free deposit bundled into the $39 Starter mailbox.
The provider describes eligible U.S. bank accounts, check detection and optional rules. We did not link a bank, submit a check, measure availability of funds, or verify eligibility for any particular account. A provider-supplied animation with fictional data illustrates the request flow.
Software access
Which App Should a New Customer Use?
Four official store listings coexist: LZ Virtual Mail on iOS, LZ Virtual Mail on Android, and older Earth Class Mail listings on iOS and Android. Written support said a newly opened LegalZoom Virtual Mail business account should use the LZ app on either platform. The older app remains available for legacy/non-LegalZoom accounts and is not a second current-account rating to average into one score.
The public page advertises AI summaries, categorization, API integration, and cloud access. In a dated reply, support said summaries and categorization are off by default for a new account and an admin can opt in under Settings → AI Features; API/MCP access requires separate authorization. We did not verify the default in a new paid account or audit the handling of sensitive content. Read the provider’s integration description and privacy terms before enabling these features.
Address boundaries
Setup, USPS Form 1583 and Address Use
The terms require identity and USPS Form 1583 authorization to receive mail on a customer’s behalf. Charges can still apply if a customer does not complete verification. We observed the public selection and checkout screen only; we did not submit a form, reserve an address, or gain a functioning mailbox.
A commercial mail-receiving address may be useful for ordinary business correspondence. It does not automatically become a physical office, registered-agent address, residence, or universally accepted proof of presence. Check the actual assigned address and the intended institution’s rules before filing or changing critical sender records. The acceptable-use policy and terms also constrain how a customer may use the service.
Policies and support
Refunds and a Material Cancellation Conflict
The October support record contains useful specialist replies on new-account apps, New York-to-Beaverton routing, shipping components, opt-in AI, and the count created by Open and Deliver. The first live-chat contact redirected the researcher to email; another reached a specialist. This is evidence of those exchanges, not a measured service-wide response time or post-purchase support result.
The LegalZoom Guarantee describes an eligible refund request for the initial subscription fee within 30 days, while Virtual Mail usage charges remain payable. It is a limited policy, not a free trial or evidence that our own refund succeeded. We did not purchase a subscription or request one.
The current terms describe a one-time fee and ongoing usage charges for the optional six-month plan without stating a dollar amount. The older FAQ and chat say $50, so we do not present $50 as a currently verified checkout price. There was no cancellation or final invoice in this research.
Public feedback
What App and Service Reviews Can Tell Us
The research workbook captured 27 entries for the two current LZ apps and 30 for the two older Earth Class Mail apps. Some entries describe login or app usability, others address billing or mail operations, and still others concern broader LegalZoom services. We did not use it to calculate a satisfaction rate, infer the current app’s reliability, or mix old and new app scores.
Only three entries were captured from one Earth Class Mail Google profile, including older and rating-only material. That is too narrow to represent nationwide mail handling. Our direct evidence is strongest for public plan presentation and pre-sales answers; the actual experience of receiving, scanning, forwarding, and closing a mailbox remains to be tested.

Should You Choose Earth Class Mail?
Shortlist LegalZoom Virtual Mail if one of its addresses fits your actual mail purpose, the plan allowance covers your expected items, and native app access matters. Essentials is the better known-price choice in our 20-item, three-recipient example; Premium wins among the first three tiers in our 60-item, five-recipient example. Those comparisons exclude postage and other usage.
Before sending critical mail, confirm the full assigned address and acceptance with the intended institution. Ask LegalZoom to resolve the post-cancellation disposition conflict in writing, and budget forwarding and storage separately. If you need a documented all-in pre-signup shipment charge or a verified operating-speed result, this evidence cannot supply it.

Is Earth Class Mail now LegalZoom Virtual Mail?
The current business offer uses the LegalZoom Virtual Mail name. Its July 2026 terms identify Earth Class Mail, Inc. as a LegalZoom subsidiary doing business as LegalZoom. Older Earth Class Mail app listings still exist for legacy/non-LegalZoom accounts.
How much does the business mailbox cost?
Our October 2026 public paths displayed $39 Starter, $59 Essentials, $119 Premium, $179 Startup MailRoom, and $299 Business MailRoom per month. Item, recipient, user-seat, scan-page, shipping, storage, and check-deposit fees may add to the base. No subscription was bought.
Why did the checkout show about $6 due today for a $39 plan?
That was a prorated initial-screen amount on October 27, not a permanent $6 monthly price. The screen also showed the $39 monthly rate. Terms describe initial proration and later billing for the preceding calendar month; the actual charge was not tested.
Does Starter include check deposits for free?
No. The provider’s check-deposit guide says the service costs $10 per check or a separate $39 monthly add-on for five checks, then $2 each additional check. It is not included free with the $39 Starter mailbox.
Do the ten sampled addresses all validate as mailboxes?
No. Nine exact base queries returned Smarty DPV=Y; Atlanta’s bare building returned DPV=D because a secondary was missing. Five base queries had CMRA=Y, five CMRA=N. None of these checks proves a future assigned mailbox or acceptance by a bank or filing office.
Can I pick up my mail in person?
The current LegalZoom business FAQ says physical pickup is unavailable. Plan for forwarding and its postage and handling costs.
Can I get an exact forwarding price before signing up?
Published domestic and international handling fees exclude postage and the $1-per-boxed-item charge. Support declined route-specific totals for eight hypothetical cases and said the actual estimate appears in a verified account during a shipment request before submission.
Which mobile app works for a new account?
Written support directed newly opened LegalZoom Virtual Mail business accounts to the LZ Virtual Mail app on iOS or Android. The older Earth Class Mail apps remain listed for legacy/non-LegalZoom accounts. We did not log in or install an app for this review.
Are AI mail summaries on by default?
Support said a new account’s AI summaries and categorization are opt-in under Settings → AI Features, and API/MCP access is separately authorized. We did not verify the default after paid activation. Automatic mail scanning is a separate setting.
Does the 30-day guarantee refund everything?
No. The LegalZoom Guarantee describes an eligible initial subscription-fee request within 30 days while Virtual Mail usage charges remain payable. It is not a tested refund or a promise that all fees are returned.
What happens to new mail after I cancel?
Current July 2026 terms allow LegalZoom to refuse, return, or dispose of new mail after ordinary cancellation when the optional six-month plan is declined. A 2023 FAQ and an October 2026 chat reply instead describe six months of shredding. Resolve the conflict in writing before cancellation, move senders, and download scans in advance.
Is the optional six-month canceled plan $50?
The older FAQ and a chat reply say $50, while the current terms describe a one-time fee without a dollar amount and continued per-item usage charges. We did not observe that option in a current cancellation checkout, so confirm the amount and scope in writing.
